Money In Politics

Our political system has been hijacked by billionaires and corporate interests who legally pour unlimited amounts of money into elections to protect their power and profits. This unchecked influence rigs our democracy against working people—especially Black, brown, and marginalized communities—and undermines any real effort to deliver justice, opportunity, and equity for all.

We cannot build a government that works for everyday people while billionaires are allowed to write the rules. That’s why I’ve introduced legislation to take on the corrupting power of big money in our politics and challenge the wealth hoarding that fuels it. This includes bills like the Abolish Super PACs Act, which would eliminate the legal loopholes that allow billionaires and dark money groups to drown out the voices of voters, and the OLIGARCH Act, which would impose a tax on the extreme wealth of billionaires, tying their tax rates to the vast inequality between their fortunes and the median American household.

These bills reflect one fundamental belief: our democracy should answer to the people, not the powerful.

Representation should never be bought. The influence of big money in politics affects everything from housing and healthcare to climate and workers’ rights. If we want a government that truly serves our communities, we must root out the structures that allow the ultra-wealthy to control it.

Building a real democracy means ending Citizens United, banning dark money, and restoring trust in a political system that’s too often sold to the highest bidder. It also means being honest: we can’t talk about justice for working families while turning a blind eye to corporate donors.
